We Wear the Mask
BY PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask...
That was an excerpt from one of my fave poems.
For some reason, I fell in love with masks.
I have a collection from my travels around the world.
I always wondered what drew me in.
Is it that I resonate with hiding myself from the world, a need to feel protected, hide shame, or a connection to my reality in this country?
Tips to Accessorize Your Home
When decorating think about what resonates with you.
What do you like to do, your hobbies, your passion? What can you add to your space to tell your story?
What energy and feel do you want your space to hav?
Reflect these things in the pieces you choose. Allow your accessories to share your story of who you are, the life you've lived, your growth, journey, and future.
Make your space authentically you.
The stories we tell. The masks we wear.
Lets remove our masks to share our gifts with the world.
We are meant to be seen.
Lets stop hiding our light behind masks.
