Decorate to Inspire

Interior design is not just finding pretty thing and adding it to your home. Decorating shiuld inspire you and other who come to your space.  There should vr a sense of comfort and function to a space. Interior decorating your home should tell your story, what's important to you, who's important to you, and what's your story.

For instance, my home is filled with haitian art, art of all kinds, mask collection from around the globe, just to name a few. In the picture above, is an example of my entryway console/buffet (multi purpose, that's a whole other blog article). I styled the console with a masculine approach but with a book recommended from my brother in law that I enjoy, jewelry from Hawaii from my sister, and a storage book to keep pen and paper, and a silver ball to add some brightness and something new. Through this you can see some things about me, I am connected to my family, I value what they recommend and give me, and I enjoy masculine elements.  You learn a little about my story, simply by walking in my entryway.  The inspiration from my family began in my childhood starting with my grandmother.

In high school I wrote a poem titled, A Homage to My Grandmother. In the poem, I described how a woman from an impoverished country thin framed white and golden haired inspired her granddaughter from a thousand miles away by simply just being herself.

I always felt privileged when my grandmother, Grun Zun is what we affectionately called her, would ask me to braid her hair.  I was all of maybe 10 years old and would make the most hideous styles, but she would look in the mirror tell me that I did well.

My dad would later tell me how Grun Zun would walk miles at 4am to purchase fresh bread from the bakery to sell in the city during rush hour.  He told me how she took great care of her two sons and grandchildren in Haiti.

I think back that if my grandmother could raise her children and run a business on shear determination and hard work, then why can't I. Every time I think to complain or give up, I think of Grun Zun walking at 4am in worn shoes mile after mile to provide for her family independently.

With this story, I want to share determination, hard work, and perseverance.  I also wanted to share the importance of taking culture, tradition, history, and your story to fuse into the style of your home when decorating. Your home should tell the story of you from your style through color and furniture choices, your culture in artwork like paintings, rugs, textiles, sculptures, and your history, interest, or personality from books you have around your home.

Look around your home or office; what does it say about you? What's your story, what inspires you, is that what you keep around you or not? If not, you definitely have some work to do!!!

This week's celebrity match up is... someone spicy, hot, and fun.  If you haven't guessed it's model, talk show host, and author to name a few. The infamous Amber Rose.

Amber represents the modern woman unafraid and unapologetic for her beauty and sexiness. Through her Slutwalk Charity, she bring awareness to the idea that sexual assault is not the fault of a woman, but the responsibility of the perpetrator. Women have the right to wear what they want, when they want and should not be held accountable for the actions of those that can't handle it. Kudos to you, Amber. This is a real issue that needs attention and education for people to understand and stop shaming women.

Ms. Amber Rose's fashion is modern, sleek, sexy, and fearless.  It is the celebration of womanhood.

YOU DESERVE A BEAUTIFUL HOME

Time and time again, you make excuses for what you have and what you don’t have.

Now is the time to stop the excuses dead in its tracks.

You must take a stance that you deserve a beautiful home.

Don't you think that you should be surrounded by your heart’s desire, feel comfortable, represented, and proud to enjoy all you’ve worked for.

An attractive home is not something reserved just for the rich.

You are worthy of a fabulous space to come home to and to feel really good about where and how you live.

Your space, room, or whatever you may call it is worthy of being filled with memories, trinkets passed

down from generations, knick knacks from travels, and things you like just because.

Are you waiting for that tax refund check, your spouse to tell you it’s okay, one of your girlfriend’s opinions, or to save up enough to do a project.

Well, you’ll never save enough, there may be other uses for the tax refund check, your spouse will be happy with the end results, and your girlfriend’s always got something to say.

At the end of the day, it’s you.  You have to make a decision that the time is now to declutter, organize, and beautify your home because it WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE forever.

It will increase your self-esteem, make you feel better, instill a sense of pride, and the list goes on and on.

You may be able to afford in home interior decorating services, e-design services (where someone

decorated for you via the internet and sends you a concept board to implement the design on your own), or just the old fashion do it yourself type of thing.

Your home deserves stunning interior décor like you’ve always imagined and then some.

Don’t feel guilty about having something that you are entitled to.

It is your right to live comfortably and beautifully; to be surrounded in the look of luxury.

This is not just reserved for movie sets or famous people.  You are just as deserving as anyone else.

The bank will not break and you will not go broke, but you will have the home you want on your budget.

No matter who you are, what you do, how much you have, or where you live…

You deserve a beautiful home.

Now go out and get it!

Subscribe to 4th and Grove you will receive weekly decor inspiration, tips, and news.
