We Wear the Mask
BY PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask...
That was an excerpt from one of my fave poems.
For some reason, I fell in love with masks.
I have a collection from my travels around the world.
I always wondered what drew me in.
Is it that I resonate with hiding myself from the world, a need to feel protected, hide shame, or a connection to my reality in this country?
Tips to Accessorize Your Home
When decorating think about what resonates with you.
What do you like to do, your hobbies, your passion? What can you add to your space to tell your story?
What energy and feel do you want your space to hav?
Reflect these things in the pieces you choose. Allow your accessories to share your story of who you are, the life you've lived, your growth, journey, and future.
Make your space authentically you.
The stories we tell. The masks we wear.
Lets remove our masks to share our gifts with the world.
We are meant to be seen.
Lets stop hiding our light behind masks.
What mask are you hiding behind?

She was known for her stance on drug use and prevention, positive affirmations for self improvement, and her fashion. She was a fashion icon of the 1980's influencing women all around the globe.
Nancy's fashion can be interpreted as classic traditional decor style. Below are two living rooms of this design style.

In honor of women everywhere; today's match up is a representation of possibilities. This goddess is a doula, yogi, singer, artist, mother, and the list goes on and on and on and on. That was a hint people. The wonderful Erykah Badu.
Ms. Badu's style is eclectic, a true work of art. She is not tied to a look or an era. She is a true work of art.
It's complicated. Is the least to say. Ms. Badu's decor style is Eclectic. Artistic. Historic.
Honoring black history month, February week two's match up is breaking sterotypes and boundaries. Herstory is amazing but her impact in the lives of others is even greater. Celebrity Match Up is Oprah Winfrey.
In celebration of Black History month, this week's match up is one of the most powerful black women on the planet... Michelle Obama.

White can be beautiful, it represents cleanliness, tranquility, elegance, purity, refresh, renew and all that good stuff. White can be sexy too! I want to celebrate white because I feel like many people are afraid to use it in their space. Don't be afraid. Go for it!
